5099, Bluebird
Height: ½”
Designer: Martha Armstrong Hand
Production: S1959-S1960
Mold Book Name: Bluebird
Notes: This piece has an Aurasperse finish.
This mold was later reissued as a “Non-Disney” Miniature, A-064. The non-Disney Miniature Bluebird is extremely rare, and I have not seen photos which are conclusively the reissue. It cannot be Aurasperse, as this finish was not used by Hagen-Renaker after 1961.
5098, Cardinal
Height: ½”
Designer: Martha Armstrong Hand
Production Dates: S1959-S1960 (Aurasperse red)
Mold Book Name: Cardinal
Notes: This mold was later reissued as a Miniature, A-063. Miniature reissues of Disney pieces are called Non-Disneys by collectors. The non-Disney version of the Cardinal was painted as and called an Oriole.
5094, Rabbit
Height: 1 ½”
Designer: Martha Armstrong Hand
Production Dates: S1959-S1960
Mold Book Name: Rabbit
Notes: This mold was later reissued as a Miniature with different colors and detail. Only pieces which closely resemble the photo here are Disney issues. Miniature reissues of Disney pieces are called Non-Disneys by collectors.
5096, Squirrel
Height: 1 ¼”
Designer: Martha Armstrong Hand
Production Dates: S1959-S1960
Mold Book Name: Squirrel
Notes: This mold appears on the Miniatures order form as A-066 in F1965 and S1966. I have not been able to locate any examples or photographs of the Non-Disney Miniature version; if it was actually produced it is extremely rare.
A Dot-eyed Disney squirrel is also pictured here. Some Disney pieces have less detail than usual, especially in the eyes (so they are often called “dot-eyed versions.”) Dot-eyed Disney pieces are nevertheless easy to distinguish from regular runs because of the general style and colors used.
There are theories that dot-eyed Disneys may have been made toward the end of the run as a cost-cutting measure, or possibly released several years later than the order forms indicate. 1961 and 1965 are sometimes put forward as possible release dates.
